Little HippieWe must go forward, because the present is unjust and insufferable, but we cannot kill the past in doing so, for the past is part of our identity, and without our identity we are nothing. - Carlos Fuentes

350.org

Whether you think Global Warming is a load of manure or have been saving the ice caps since before Al Gore started raving about it, it's kinda hard to hate the Earth where we live. Really, I'm not interested in arguing the Global Warming issue; I just want us to take care of our home.
Don't believe in global warming? No one likes smog. Of course, a lot of actions that reduce CO2 emissions are just plain good for you. For example, walking or biking rather than driving when feasible. If you like outdoor sports, like hunting, hiking or fishing, keeping our natural areas clean and full of trees is a clear benefit. Replacing your traditional lightbulbs with CFLs means you don't have to change your lightbulbs as often and over time, saves you money, and doesn't everyone like saving money? Keeping your thermostat just a couple degrees closer to the outdoor temperature also saves money. For the most part, *anything* you do that saves energy will start by saving you money. So, whether or not you do it for the environment, go green for your wallet, for your health and for the beauty of our outdoor places!

For those of you who are interested, tomorrow is 350 action day. Check out the website and join us at an event in your area!

new poetry

unscalable walls breached
impregnable fortresses invaded
unfathomable depths reached
infallible angels fallen
unassailable truths denied
indestructible hearts broken
even the worst nightmares can come true

another day another discovery

i met the cutest little babybat today at work. i love getting to chat with kids; they look at the world with such a fresh, unbiased perspective. also, it's always interesting to see what's *really* going on in the minds of today's youth, as opposed to the words media puts in their mouths.

i found the niftiest set of sparkly black hairbands for only a dollar! huzzah for clearance bins!!

i have such an urge to raid goodwill and michael's for a little diy wardrobe refresher! anyone feel like spending a saturday thrifting? (after i do the dishes, that is)

Thoughts on Independence Day

"Any people that would give up liberty for a little temporary safety deserves neither liberty nor safety."
- Benjamin Franklin

"But with respect to future debt; would it not be wise and just for that nation to declare in the constitution they are forming that neither the legislature, nor the nation itself can validly contract more debt, than they may pay within their own age, or within the term of 19 years."
                      - Thomas Jefferson

"What, Sir, is the use of a militia? It is to prevent the establishment of a standing army, the bane of liberty..."
- Elbridge Gerry

The strongest reason for people to retain the right to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against tyranny in government."
- Thomas Jefferson

"In politics, as in religion, it is equally absurd to aim at making proselytes by fire and sword. Heresies in either can rarely be cured by persecution."
                    - Alexander Hamilton

"It has been said that all Government is an evil. It would be more proper to say that the necessity of any Government is a misfortune. This necessity however exists; and the problem to be solved is, not what form of Government is perfect, but which of the forms is least imperfect."
- James Madison

"'Tis our true policy to steer clear of permanent Alliances, with any portion of the foreign world."
- George Washington

"Enlighten the people, generally, and tyranny and oppressions of body and mind will vanish like spirits at the dawn of day."
                   - Thomas Jefferson

Oh, yes.

We finally saw Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. Sadly, I need to catch up on the classic show, but I'm told there were a whole lot of good throwbacks. My hubby was especially excited about Wrecking Crew and Prime's combining with Jetfire. Some of the new things were fun, too, like the Decepticon who could take on human appearance. Of course, the action scenes were great, still a little boggling for my eyes.
This was not nearly as good as the first movie. The twins were a crude attempt at humor, the little romance spots just didn't belong, and WHERE was the Mutemath theme? Now, we didn't stay all the way through the credits, but still, that should have been first up.
Overall, still an enjoyable film. Gotta see it.
